“I am always happy to meet with people interested in my work, especially if they can help in the battle to eliminate global poverty.”Professor Muhammad YunusIn spring 2009 a meeting took place between Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank and leading thinker of the social business movement, and Andreas Treichl, Chairman of the Board of ERSTE Foundation and CEO of Erste Group. During his visit in Vienna, which was initiated by Prof. Thomas Druyen from Sigmund Freud University, Prof. Yunus above all wanted to learn more about the social banking projects, Die Zweite Sparkasse and good.bee.

At about the same time and in the same place two other men had a chance conversation with one another: Rudolf Hundstorfer, the Austrian Federal Minister for Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, and Hans Reitz, Founder of the Grameen Creative Lab and Yunus‘advisor.

Four men, two encounters, one spontaneous idea: to extend the concept of social business to Central and Eastern Europe, thereby helping to improve the quality of life and the economic circumstances in the region. One year later the idea had transformed into a dynamic project:The Social Business Tour 2010 – a joint initiative of ERSTE Foundation, Erste Group, good.bee ,The Grameen Creative Lab and the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, Republic of Austria.
