Norma putonhua 普通话 este norma de pronunţare şi transcriere a caracterelor chineze conform dialectuli pronunţat din regiunea Beijingului.
Gramatica putonhua corespund normelor stabilite în lucrările literare scrise în limba modernă; care sîn cele mai aproape de dialectele de nord ale limbii chineze.
În literatura de specialiatate putonhua tine de dialectul "mandarin" al limbilor clasice: deşi mandarin este un nume colectiv pentru tot grupul limbilor din regiuinile de nord a Chinei.
}n Taiwan limba oficiala este numita goiui 国语 adica "limba de stat" în Singapore şi Malasia huaiui 华语 adica "limba chinezilor".
