I called the British Embassy in Chisinau yesterday at 3 pm as I wanted to clarify a few issues with visa applications and was "greeted" by the same answering machine as last year saying "The UK embassy is already closed. The embassy is open Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 5:30 pm and on Friday from 9 am to 2 pm". Right..... [the Hugh-Grant-from-Notting-Hill type of "right..."]

Today I tried again, at 11:20 am and got the same response. Basically, it's like they're saying "We're open but we're closed".

Way to go UK! Maybe the new Foreign Secretary will sort things out? I don't think so either.

Oh, and their English language contact page lists a different ambassador than the Romanian and Russian versions. Two ambassadors? One for those who speak English and another one for the others? Interesting...

Edit: I managed to get through after a dozen or so attempts and they said they had a problem that was now fixed. As far as I remember, last year the answering machine lied to me too. So maybe it pretended that it was fixed :)
