Vlad Filat is a Moldovan politician, who previously served as Minister of State in the Republic of Moldova (1999).
Filat Vlad was born on 6 May 1969 in the village Lapusna (Hincesti district). After graduating in 1986 the Lapusna School, he complied with mandatory military service in the USSR Army (1987-1989). He studied at Cooperation Colledge of the Republic of Moldova (1989-1990) and Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, Faculty of Law (1990-1994).
Between 1994-1998, Vlad Filat initiates and conducts more business in Romania, managing director at "Trading RoMold SRL in Iasi (1994-1997) and Chairman of the Administrative Council of the Society "Dosoftei" of Iasi (1997-1998). Upon return to Moldova in 1998 was appointed director general of Department of Privatization and Management of State Property.
During 12 March-12 November 1999, held the office of State Minister. In 2000 he was elected deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova and returned to business.
Following elections in March 2005, Vlad Filat obtained a Parliament mandate on the Democratic Moldova Block lists. He ran for the office of general mayor of Chisinau Municipality elections in 2007, collecting 8.3% votes.
Vlad Filat is chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM). A Congress establishing PLDM was held on 8 December 2007.
He is married and has two children.
