default Interview on the Soviet Deportation of Moldovan People in Siberia in 1941A victim of communism, Efimia Cuza from Călăraşi, Moldova, tells the heartbreaking story about her life during the Soviet occupation (started in 1938). It is amazing how clear-minded she is at her age. Bringing to present her memories as a teenager, Efimia divides the time in two:

  1. before 1938 when she says that, although the people in her community where not rich (she recognizes an essential economics principle, which says that it is in human nature to always want more, not less; always alert to opportunities to improve their condition*), they had the freedom to improve their living, and
  2. after 1938 (Soviet occupation, communism) when Moldovans lost all their freedoms, and were forced to face a regime of serfdom so terrible that they never imagined possible.

This story confirms many of the horrifying truths about the Soviet Union that have been included in the modern history: people’s refusal to accept collectivization, inhumane expropriation methods, mass deportations, forced labor camps, indoctrination by starvation, “working armies,” the immorality of socialism, etc. I hope to update this topic soon with more insights and possibly an English transcript of this interview. Thanks the team behind Curaj.TV for making this public.
