The Russian Militia infringes constantly basic Human Rights
On the 20th of March, the opposition parties from Russia led protest manifestations against actual government. The manifestations were called “The day of anger”, “The Anti-Putin Day”. Vladivostok is where manifestations began, with 1500 persons participating. On 21st of March, a new protest wave will be initiated.
Protesters are unsatisfied with the fact that United Russia, the leading political party, doesn’t manage to overcome the economic crisis and to assure a decent life. But this time again they were prohibited to express their discontent. 70 persons were arrested in Moscow only, and about 6000 policemen were engaged in guarding public order, as stated by BBC.
Hyde Park Association expresses it’s worry regarding the illegal actions of Russian police, that violates severely the freedom of expression and the right of peaceful assembly, stated in the Russian Constitution, Art. 29, 31, and in the European Convention on Human Rights, Art. 10, 11. It is to be mentioned that Russia has also signed the Convention. Considering that a protest wave will begin soon, we are even more distressed with the assumption that police’s actions could become more violent.
On the 31st of March, Hyde park Association will solidarize with Russian protesters by organizing a manifestation, simultaneously with the one that will take place in Moscow. We will meet at the Russian Embassy in Chişinău to call on the Russian authorities to respect Human Rights.
